Wuhua County - A Stop On The Journey Across China

Wuhua County, originally established as Changle County during the Northern Song Dynasty (960–1127), derived its name from the "Changle Tower" built in the region by Zhao Tuo, the King of Nanyue. Due to duplication with other counties named Changle in China, Dr. Sun Yat-sen proposed renaming it "Wuhua County" in 1914 (the third year of the Republic of China), inspired by the Five Flowers Mountain (Wuhua Mountain) within its territory. As a cultural hub of Hakka heritage, the county boasts profound historical significance and modern development potential.

五华县于北宋置县，初名长乐县，因南越王赵佗在境内筑“长乐台”得名，因与其他省的长乐县重名，民国三年孙中山提议以境内五华山更名为五华县。是客家文化重镇，兼具历史底蕴与现代发展潜力。

Wuhua is celebrated as the "Land of Four Honors": the Homeland of Culture, the Hometown of Overseas Chinese, the Cradle of Chinese Football, and the Realm of Master Artisans. Its intangible cultural heritage includes the Wuhua string-puppet theater and stone carving traditions, while historical landmarks like the Shixiong Mountain Archaeological Site and Changle Confucian Temple stand as treasured legacies.Notable attractions encompass the Tanghu Hot Mineral Mud Resort, Former Residence of Li Huitang (renowned as Asia’s "King of Football" in the early 20th century), and the Qimuzhang Nature Reserve.

五华县拥有“四乡”美誉：文化之乡、华侨之乡、足球之乡、工匠之乡。五华提线木偶戏，石雕等非遗项目，以及狮雄山遗址，长乐学宫等古迹，都是五华的宝贵遗产。五华重要的景点包括汤湖热矿泥山庄、李惠堂故居、七目嶂自然保护区等。

The county’s agricultural distinction is exemplified by Datian Dried Persimmons, a National Geographical Indication product that once served as imperial tribute during the Ming Dynasty. Other local specialties include Xinqiao dried tofu skin, Wuhua Heli pears, and Changle Shaojiu liquor.
